A large fibreglass elephant, made and painted in Chiang Mai, stands on the sidewalk looking out across the street. It’s one of many such individually painted elephants appearing in various locations around the world, not just to serve as striking art exhibits, but to also raise awareness of the plight of the Asian Elephant that is in danger of extinction. Their outdoor exhibitions generate global publicity, providing information and support for elephant conservation projects.

It rather reminds me of the Super Lamb Banana (created by Japanese artist, Taro Chiezo) that was similarly reproduced in fibreglass to appear in locations across Liverpool in the UK.
