Encore days

  • The last day of summer down under

As the days get shorter and the leaves start to turn to gold here in Melbourne, there are those odd hot days when summer returns to perform an encore. Today was one such day.

While most people were at work, my friend Madeleine and I went for a Monday bike ride. We rode along the cycle path from Sandringham to Port Melbourne, a pleasant ride that weaves a path alongside the beaches that stretch out into Port Phillip Bay.

Most of the beaches were deserted but for a handful of people who, like us, had the luxury of having a Monday off, and an opportunity to enjoy the summer’s encore. I always love these encore days, though part of me doesn’t because I know that it means the show will be over pretty soon, and it’s always too soon for me.
