Whiskey, wine, and just in time

  • It’s late, very late in fact, and I’m in a Remok with my good friend Will and a fellow traveller, Jade. We’re heading to Angkor Wat for sunrise after spending most of the night sitting around in a couple of bars chatting and swapping stories.

Today was Will’s birthday. His 40th in fact, and to celebrate we headed out to a French restaurant for dinner before hitting the rather trashy ‘Pub Street’ in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Jade and I were helping Will slide into his 40’s on a slope made all the more slippery by wine and whiskey.

By the time we were ready to call it a night the night itself was thinking the same thing. With that in mind it was suggested that we should go and see the sunrise over Angkor Wat.

Todays picture then, is Will sitting in the tuk tuk and we rattle our way over the pot-holed roads racing the sun to the vast temple. We made it there, just in time to see the colors of dawn.
