Green with envy

  • Within Singapore’s sprawling and overcrowded concrete caverns the possibility of escape can feel distant. However the glittering city state does have a place where one can get a decent dose of green.

The Botanic Gardens provides a much needed antidote to city life, and while it’s hard not to see a skyscraper in the background at any point, it does at least provide residents and visitors with a breath of fresh un-air-conditioned air.

As I wandered around the vast gardens I found myself feeling envious of all the beautiful plants and trees that flourish in these hot and humid conditions. Plants that I used to carefully keep in my apartment grow here with little help or attention. One might say that I am ‘green with envy.’
