Floating ideas

  • In the golden light of an autumn evening in Paris, I’m looking down at floating homes on the banks of the Seine River. I like the idea of living in a floating home like this, and as I stood on the bridge looking down the river as the sun began to make its way to the horizon, I imagined, for a moment, that I lived there.

I’d have a boat, of course. A small boat, nothing ostentatious. Just something for trips down the river now and then, because surely trips down the river now and then must be a wonderful way to spend a lazy sunny day. Maybe I’d have a canoe too, you know, to keep me fit and out and about, like riding a bike.

I’d always have visitors, of course. I mean who wouldn’t want to come and spend time in my house on the banks of the Seine River in Paris not far from the Eiffel Tower. We’d sit on the terrace sipping red wine, chatting, and eating french cheese and bread as the sun goes down. On an evening like this maybe we’d be wrapped up in blankets drinking hot mulled wine. Who wouldn’t want to do that?
