Garden of fire

  • This is what happens when you don’t grow out of that phase you go through when you have to set everything on fire. Or was that just me? In any case, this is just a small part of the fête de la lumière in the French town of Chartres.

The festival is really a lot of fun as the city lights up buildings and pathways and features all kinds of interesting artworks that feature light. However, the garden of fire (not its actual name) was my favorite part. A significant area was set aside for all manner of displays that used actual fire. There were quite possibly thousands of terracotta pots full of some kind of burning liquid, all without a barrier or some killjoy in a high-vis jacket telling everyone to keep back.

See a short video of the festival here.
