  • Market day, Carcassonne

It’s Saturday morning and at the Place Carnot in Carcassonne, in the south of France, the flower, fruit, and vegetable market (Marché aux fleurs, fruits et légumes) is enjoying a sunny day of selling.

The local markets are one of the things I really enjoy about life in France. Fresh vegetables and fruit, wonderful cheeses, honey, and all kinds of meats are available in markets just like this across the country.

This market is just a few moments from where I’m staying in Carcassonne and it’s fun just to just stroll through the market slowly enjoy samples wherever they’re on offer. From cheeses to saucisson dry-cured sausages, ciders to local wines, there will always be something to tempt you at a French street market.

Stand in the market using Google street view.
