It was another beach day today, and while I could have shown you another nice picture of an Aussie beach I decided instead to take you to the Richmond Yard, a themed pop-up bar and grill set in a post-apocalyptic future world.
According to the venues website, the year is supposed to be 2023 and the world, damaged by the scourge of conflict, is now experiencing a mass divide between the elite and the lower classes. In Melbourne, life goes on with the everyday person fighting to survive in a post-apocalyptic era. Makeshift communities have infiltrated the city boundaries. The Richmond Yard is the Home base to urban renegades and underground resistors.
I’m not entirely sure 2023 would feel like this, I certainly didn’t feel like an underground resistor when I handed over six dollars for a toasted sandwich, but I liked the concept. It felt a little like ‘Bladerunner‘ meets ‘Max Headroom‘ meets hipsters and food trucks. But it made a change from your average Saturday nightspot.
The picture shows a shipping container lounge featuring the comforts we can expect in this post-apocalyptic future; two office chairs and a broken old TV.
