A car drives toward storm clouds that hang over California’s central valley. It passes the slow-moving train I’m between Modesto and Merced on the San Joaquin line. It doesn’t look like there’s much out here, just field after field of industrial scale farmland which is pretty much what the region is known for, or should that be unknown for?
