It’s handy having a friend with a beach house when you have a three day holiday weekend with the kind of weather we’ve been enjoying since Friday. The cloudless sky, white golden sand and sapphire blue water looked every bit like the scenes one might imagine when they think of Australia.

It’s not always like this, of course. The seasons are changing now from summer to autumn and the evenings are growing cooler every day. But regardless of what the official season is, today felt like summers last stand. Like a crowd pleasing encore designed to get everyone on their feet applauding.

I’m hoping there will be a few more curtain calls before the show is done. I’ve still got plenty of applause left in me.
