At Jehan-Rictus Square in Paris, not far from the famous Sacré-Cœur cathedral, there’s a wall known as Le mur des je t’aime, (The I Love You Wall). 612 enamelled lava tiles span 40 square metres (430 sq ft) and feature the words “I love you” in 311 different languages, making this a popular place where couples pose for photographs.

Created in 2000 by Fédéric Baron who collected the “I love yous” from friends, neighbours, and even embassies, the tiled wall is a collaboration with calligraphist Claire Kito, and mural artist Daniel Boulogne. The fragments of red throughout the wall are meant to signify the pieces of humanity’s broken heart, which this wall is attempting to repair.
