The portrait

  • On the Pont de l’Archevêché, a bridge over the Seine river in Paris, with views to the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, a young woman sits still as a sketch artist begins to draw her picture. She nods when I ask if I can take her picture, but the artist doesn’t want her to speak. He didn’t seem quite as open to me taking the photograph.

    I wanted to ride back a little while later and see if I could catch the finished article, but my day quickly took me far from this part of Paris on this golden autumn afternoon.
