  • Sherbrooke Forest

Sherbrooke Forest has to be one of my favorite places to go near Melbourne. Just 40km east of the city in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges National Park, the forest is lush and thick with vegetation. It’s a tranquil place dominated by spectacular Mountain Ash trees and lush fern gullies, reminding me of forests I’ve visited in New Zealand and Queensland.

Sounds of birds echo through the forest including the song of the forest’s most famous inhabitants, lyrebirds, that despite being shy, aren’t that hard to spot if you tread quietly. I often like to just listen to the surrounding nature, and I’ve even recorded it for my forthcoming ‘5 minutes of somewhere‘ podcast.
