The sun is setting and I’m standing on a hill in Kew overlooking Abbotsford, Collingwood, and the skyline of the city of Melbourne, Australia. Nearby a couple sit in silence on a bench as they watch the sun retreat behind the buildings that cut a jagged line across the horizon. Next to them an old man adjusts a large camera on a stand, it beeps and clicks as he takes one picture before adjusting the shot to take another. Nobody speaks. We just watch the sun slowly disappear from sight, leaving behind gold plated clouds that quickly fade, as riches often do.
