One of the things I’ve enjoyed in Asia is the street food. I haven’t always eaten what’s on offer, but just seeing the ways food is served on the streets has been fun. Best of all, street food is often ridiculously cheap. In my experience the average street food meal costs around £2 to £3, that less than US$5 for a meal that often surprised me by how good it was.

While it’s fair to say that I’m no ‘foodie’ I think it would be hard to be beat Thailand’s street food. However, across Asia at seemingly all hours of the day and night people sell drinks, snacks, and full meals from stalls, wagons, carts, bicycles, motorbikes, vans, and anything else you can think of.

Today’s picture features a friendly man who is selling Bakso on a street in Bali. Like so many similar street food vendors across Indonesia, he was pushing his little cart down the road and ringing a bell to announce his presence.

Bakso is an Indonesian meatball made from beef, chicken or fish. It’s served in a bowl of broth with bihun noodles, vegetables, and other options such as tofu, egg, bean sprouts, and crisp wonton. It’s sprinkled with fried shallots and celery and in my experience tastes slightly different from vendor to vendor.
