Staring at the sun

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

  • I walked by a small field of sunflowers today. They were growing on a former demolition site that’s surely due for redevelopment soon. It wasn’t clear if they were farmed or they were just there to make the site look more attractive.

I really like sunflowers and these were among the tallest I’ve ever seen. They reminded me of the sunflowers I grew in my garden back in the UK. From a distance these towering plants always look impressive to me as they reach for the sky and follow the sun throughout the day. But like so many things in nature they look equally impressive when you take a closer look at them. So today’s picture gets you up close a personal with one of the shorter sunflowers in that seemingly random field.
