Order and discipline

  • I was lost in Singapore one again, walking around the maze of underground walkways that all look the same with their fluorescent lit glass fronted brand name stores full of the same generic things that are in the replica of this store just around the corner. It’s hot and sticky outside and I’m dressed for that weather, but in this endless warren the air is chilled to a near winter crisp.

This is one of the problems I have with Singapore. I’m still unfamiliar with the place, but a great deal of the central city looks the same to me, with the same shops, same products, and same ads on walls that looked the same as the last one. There’s an almost oppressive uniformity to the central city. In places it feels so stiff and up tight that you get the feeling that theres a tension of near tectonic proportions aching to be released.

I like Singapore like a liked library girls. Everything interesting is under the surface!
