Borneo

  • Today I and arrived in Borneo ahead of a climb up Mount Kinabalu tomorrow. I’m a little confused because we’re still in Malaysia, but this part of the country identifies itself as Borneo and the flight here across the South China Sea was treated as ‘international.’

Not much to report about the day really. It was pretty much spent getting here, but in the evening my friend, Will, and I headed out in search of some local cuisine. We’re staying in the fishing port town of Kota Kinabalu, or ‘KK’ as the locals call it, and after dark the harborside comes alive with restaurants and markets.

We sat in a very smokey market eating fresh fish, squid, and shrimp prepared right there on an open grill. For about about £7 ($11) each we ate very well knowing that we would need the energy for tomorrows climb.
